Psychsoundbites: What's in store?

It’s early-days here, on Psychsoundbites_Substack and my plans for this site are still taking shape. I am working on two public scholarship sites at once: This site, and a separate website too, that features more images and infographics than text (i.e., images are powerful teaching and learning aides, as I discuss in the post Meme Matters [In Psychology?]). The two sites will eventually interleave.

Once both are fully up and running, the linked content between sites will always be freely accessible. But I will be writing just for subscribers to this Substack too, and once that content is rolling out some will only be accessible with a paid subscription. While all this is under development though, site visitors can freely access everything I share.

What can you expect to see, as this work unfolds? As of now, I’m planning to contribute to these three features:

  1. The GPA Series: “GPA” stands for “Giving Psychology Away.” In this series I will share reasoned, empirically based suggestions for how to use specific psychological content (e.g., theory, research findings) to improve life conditions. These articles will link to my up-and-coming website, too. For more on my philosophy behind giving Psychological content away, you can read “Why [what is a] Psychsoundbites?”

  2. The Wildcard Series. My mind is often on overdrive and sometimes I just *must* play with an idea on the screen. That’s what this column will be for - a place to share what’s on my mind. My “How do you [solve a problem like] AI” post nicely fits this category. Who knows what else will strike me? Stay tuned :). It’ll be fun.

  3. Trade Tools. I come to social media for many reasons including both entertainment, social connections, and professional development. Sometimes the lines amongst these reasons blur too, as I am always happy to talk shop! In that spirit, I will be sharing “trade tools” posts where I share a bit about what I do, whether that be steps I take to design a new course, to a course activity, or even how I approach research mentorship with undergraduates in a teaching-heavy liberal arts environment (e.g., I teach 5 classes a year and have very little time for research - how do I manage?).

  4. Notes for Journal Club. I’m an intrepid lifelong learner and read articles all the time. When I find myself thinking with my fingers (i.e., writing a summary to help remember the key points), I will share my notes here in the hopes that you - my subscribers - want to chat about the content too.

I’m still working out all the details of what this will eventually look like. For now, “This is Psychsoundbites” by Erica K. — Thanks for joining me here. I’m eager to see where this project takes us.
